Discussion:
• Shelly and Sarah agree: The more community support we have the better the transition will be.
• We split into groups to problem solve. We decided which issue belongs with the decided upon topics.
• Our subgroup felt a new topic should be created. We called it Logistics. We felt some issues needed to be handled by the administration.
The following shows where our group decided to place the issues:
 Physical Space in the HS: Climate, Behavior, Supervision, Intermingling, Jr. High ID
 Social and Emotional Issues: Climate, Behavior, Supervision
 Staffing Availability: Logistics
 Safety of Students: Climate, Behavior, Supervision, Intermingling
 Cost: Logistics
 Scheduling/Curriculum: Logistics
 Sports/H.S. Activities: Supervision, Intermingling

• Discussion pertaining special education students. Felt we need to have representation. Shelly Lackey will contact Tracy Hogsett-Tabler to inform her we would like her to attend. Deb Couch will mention next meeting to her if she sees her in the library.
• One area not addressed: Staffing for social emotional issues.
• Matt Curtis mentioned visiting Miller HS to view SOAR program. He thinks it can work. The motivators will need to be different than MS or Elem.

The goal of the process we have begun includes the following:
o Look at concerns we have
o What will/ will not work
o Positive/Negative aspects
o Look at research to see what popular theories there are
o Look at background data to generate streams of thought
o Discover other alternatives.

Before next meeting we all need to learn about the social/emotional needs of HS and Jr. High children
Diana Limo will set up a Wiki to post comments (a web space to discuss topics, will add links with info

Next meeting will be June 10, 6-7:30pm in the HS Library. Think of others who might like to join us and extend an invitation.

Review of last meeting for new members
Shelley Lackey presented a list of questions and concerns community members have posed.
- Reviewed several pages and categorized what topics of study they would fall under... Climate/Culture, Behavior, Supervision, Intermingling, Jr. High Identity, and Logistics
Other issues and concerns that came from this activity…
- IEP services and what this would look like under the new structure
- Staff licensing issues in regards to teachers on K-8 certificates or the newer 7-12 licenses. Will this affect teacher buy 0in?
“Homework” for group members…
- Sign up for wiki, share and post information
- Think of a mission statement and post it to the wiki. What is our purpose/mission? What are we trying to accomplish? We will vote on what we like best.
- Start compiling information and data in order to research the “topics of study.” Shelley would like us to be ready to go with information to share out and plans to be started in about a month’s time
- Talk to people about the next meeting and time and encourage them to join us if they can!
